Mare Serenitatis
We all know the story of the Silver Millennium’s demise. We all know who Sailor Moon is and we all know about Crystal Tokyo. But what we don’t know much about is the Silver Millennium itself. What really happened during that time? Was it really as peaceful as Luna claims it was?
Not exactly.
This is where our story begins. Meet Princess Serenity. No, we’re not talking about Princess Serenity who’s in love with Prince Endymion, we’re talking about Princess Serenity, her mother. This Serenity might have grown up decades before Beryl led the Earth against the Moon, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t have her own share of problems.
Peace between the Earth and Moon is shaky as it always has been, seeing as there is no Sailor Senshi from the blue planet. Although neither the Moon nor the Earth have declared war on each other, little battles between the two are not unheard of although they are rare. Serenity’s parents were killed in one of these little spats when she was eight. Now at the age of seventeen, she’s still considered too young to take up her rightful position as queen. Instead, there are regents filling in for her until her twentieth birthday. This wouldn’t be particularly problematic except that said regents, Lord Florin and Lady Alicia, would much rather see their own children take the throne instead of Princess Serenity. And now that Serenity is nearing the age that she can take the throne they’re beginning to plot for real.
If that wasn’t bad enough, the occasional threat from Earth has turned into the weekly threat from Earth. To remedy this there is currently an ambassador from Earth at the Moon Palace, and peace talks are underway, but they’re not going nearly fast enough.
With all this going on, Serenity should be ready to break down under stress. But she’s not. Do you know why? It’s because she’s got her Senshi supporting her. Princesses from Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Jupiter, they’re Serenity’s best friends and guardians (not to mention the predecessors of the Senshi we know and love) and she wouldn’t be able to do anything without them.
And of course, what would a Sailor Moon story be without a little romance? Serenity’s in love a young noble from Uranus. He’s handsome and polite and Serenity just can’t get enough of him. But she can’t figure out if he feels the same way about her.
So what do you say? Want to join the fun in the Moon Palace at Mare Serenitatis? (heehee it rhymes!)
